We had a fantastic evening at Hamilton last night getting a WINNER in the 4.35pm! HOUR BY HOUR ran a cracker, leading from start to finish under Andrew Mullen for owner, Evelyn, Duchess of Sutherland. We are absolutely delighted that we have had 2 winners this week for the very patient, Duchess of Sutherland. A massive congratulations to her! Pictured below is HOUR BY HOUR and Daisy, who was delighted to be there to lead up her favourite boy during his win!
We went into Hamilton Park last night with mixed emotions as back in 2017 we were lucky enough to win The Silver Bell with Gordon Thom’s SEPAL. Ridden by our shy (not now) Stable Apprentice Jamie Gormley. Jamie’s licence runs out at the end of the month and he has chosen not to renew it. While Val is convinced this is a sabbatical rather retirement, either way we look back on some very fond memories of 6 years at Hetlandhill with Gormless. The Langholm Lad that most people thought ‘would never make a jockey’ and thought Iain was mad to consider taking out his licence. However, he more than surpassed all expectations and hangs up his boots with 128 wins to his name!
Jamie’s first winner for us (his first ever winner) came at Newcastle in October 2016 aboard BASSETT BLEU for the infamous Cosmic Cases. At times, albeit not the most stylish in the saddle, it didn’t matter as horses seemed to travel for Jamie and Bassett Bleu did just that. Gorm became known at the yard for this ‘I just bounced out & made it’ style. Another good example being Francesca Mitchell’s NOVAK at Newcastle last year, the multiple winning TOR and we’ll never forget VERCINGETORIX at Thirsk where he went about 2 furlongs clear and stayed there. Jamie briefly took out a jumps licence too but it because clear quite quickly that while his schooling skills at home over hurdles was invaluable, he didn’t take them to the track!
We’re sure many Scottish Racing, IJR and Jamie fans will join us in wishing him all the best in his new chapter. The door is ALWAYS open!
We would like to congratulate our own, Poppy Wilson who yesterday was granted her Apprentice Jockey Licence. Poppy has been a big part of the team for 18 months now. She has already ridden in a charity race for us at Doncaster earlier this summer, were she was 4th on the wonderful MERRICOURT. She successfully passed her Apprentice Course last week and we look forward to giving her, her first chance on the racecourse proper soon. She will gain valuable experience this winter on the all weather before hitting the ground running next spring. Good Luck Poppy!
Today we head to Redcar with one runner:
7.50pm- ACONCAGUA MOUNTAIN, ridden by Andrew Mullen, owned by Mr I. J. Jardine
