Head Lad Rob returned on Monday after a few days off. I meet him at 5.30am to feed and administer any medicines. It’s good to have him back. Barn Manager Monika has done a sterling job helping me in his absence.
As ever Monday was a steady morning on the gallops. All horses except those with entries in the week ahead have a Sunday off.
I welcomed the news yesterday that from 29th March, 2 Owners per horse are allowed back to tracks in Scotland and England. The numbers increase to 6 on 12th April and on 17th May, a restricted number of supportive spectators can return.
No runners today but Lindsay is out in the lorry collecting pre-trainers. My sister Ruth has fantastic facilities at her yard in the Borders and has been pre-training one of Alex & Janet Card’s Homebreds, a 3yo gelding out of Push Me. She’s also made a fantastic job of re-habbing a 3yo filly that had a minor set-back at Christmas and is now ready to return to full training.
Tuesday morning brings the weekly update from Mr Handicapper but with only two runners (both finishing 2nd) last week, there shouldn’t be anything startling.
Entries close today for the Coral Scottish National Meeting at Ayr. Ray Anderson Greens’ Borders National winner, Dino Boy is amongst the entries and Donna & Dave Armstrong are well represented by their “grey boys”.
On that note, I’m off to ride Cool Mix…”
